Log Rot Repair & Log Replacement

Structural log rot is no problem for us. We handle all aspects of the repair, and our blending and color match meet the highest standards.

The Problem

Rot never gets cheaper by waiting

Log rot can be very expensive to fix, and it compounds. It's always better to shed unwanted water and protect logs than to deal with rot later. But when rot has set in, it needs to come out completely: cosmetic patches over soft wood fail, and they usually hide the problem while it spreads.

Common Texas rot patterns we repair every year:

  • Bottom-course logs wicking moisture at grade or behind porches and decks
  • Gable ends and corners hammered by weather without enough roof overhang
  • Window and door bucks where sealant failed years ago
  • Upper-wall rot hidden under failed stain that "still looks okay" from the ground

The Fix

Milled, hand-scribed, or whole-log: done right

We repair and replace everything from half-log exterior faces to whole structural logs, milled or hand-scribed to match the original profile. When we replace logs, whole or partial, the repair is invisible unless you know where to look. That's the standard: a blended, color-matched repair disappears.

If your log home has soft spots, dark streaking, or stain failure, send photos to JD@GuildLogandTimber.com. JD reads them from the field and will give you a straight first read.

Fire & Water Damage

Fire and water damage: same craft, same crew

Fire and water damage don't have to mean the end of a log home. Solid logs char on the surface but often keep their structural core, and water that would destroy drywall and studs can leave logs repairable. It takes someone who knows log construction to tell the difference.

We assess honestly (including working with insurance carriers on damaged-structure assessments), replace what's truly lost, strip smoke and char with media blasting, and blend the repair so the finish hides the history. Send photos of the damage to JD@GuildLogandTimber.com for a straight first read.
