When a finish has failed (peeling, blackened, or worn through to gray wood), the only real fix is complete removal. Media blasting strips old stain and dead surface wood gently: the media is soft enough to preserve the log profile but thorough enough to leave clean, bondable wood behind.
We use all kinds of blasting media and sanding methods, and we choose per job based on your logs' species, profile, condition, and the finish coming off. Often the right answer is a combination. Prep is what determines how long the new stain system lasts, so we don't cut corners on it.
Blasting exposes the true condition of the wood, so it is also a thorough inspection. Once the old finish is off, any needed rot repair can be identified and quoted accurately, and the logs are ready for the full stain system with proper prep and additives.
